What needs to happen on Main Street, Eloy.
Eloy City Work Session
Date: March 1, 2021

When it was Councilman George Reuter's turn to participate in March 1st City Work Session, he shared how he has envisioned Main Street to be.

Councilman George Reuter

I do agree with Mr. Hanns, that Downtown Eloy has one thing that is Main Street that has potential, the rest has no potential as it is now. If we don’t get Main Street running, the rest of downtown will not prosper to where we want it. I count of course South Main Street. I also do agree that people should come to Main Street to go to stores that are open only till 4 oclock in the afternoon, like my shop. We close at 4:30, I think if we want Main Street to prosper it needs to have restaurants, bars. It has to have businesses that are open more than just the normal office, hours that are open during the weekends. We put a lot of money on the facade. We put a lot of money in the water tower. If we don’t put the effort in Main Street being the place for people to hang out, to come to eat, to drink, to have fun, downtown Eloy will never live up again. So, I do agree with that. I also do agree that we have one park, I walk my dogs there but besides me, there’s not a lot of traffic there. So I don’t think Main Street should be a second park by demolishing it.

We share the same vision as Council Member George. We believe that one of the keys to the success of Eloy is turning Main Street into the business district of the city. Here's what Schwann shared about why we are doing this project.

Schwann Hanns

When you have a building like Dust Bowl turn into an entertainment district, it will increase the value of the entire Main Street. It will only benefit us, it will benefit everybody on Main Street. And when Main Street goes up, everywhere in the city of Eloy goes up. That’s the vision that we have. And we agree with you, it might never return, the money we are investing.
