“We as council hear a lot about this house and this house and the first thing they say is you need to go tear down this house and the city is really quick to go tear down somebody’s house. But when it comes to something like this we want to spend all this money,” Powell said. “If we’re going to be doing this why don’t we give the residents the money and let them rebuild their house. We’re quick to authorize a house being torn down, and there’s an empty lot. You talk about empty lots and now there’s blocks with empty lots because we have generously bulldozed those houses down.Source: Dust Bowl Theatre: To save or not to save, Eloy officials must decide, By MARIA VASQUEZ, Staff Writer, Nov 13, 2019, https://www.pinalcentral.com/eloy_enterprise/news/dust-bowl-theatre-to-save-or-not-to-save-eloy-officials-must-decide/article_c95d0bf1-8fa8-5fd0-80c5-6f214c9358fd.html

“If we give you the green light and you guys start, then it fails, the mud is on our face,”. “We could have made other efforts somewhere else, that could have been done then and there. One thing I don’t want to do is paint a picture of everything, making it look nice and then egg falling on our face. I think we’re protecting ourselves from ghosts of the past. If it can be done, that’s great. I’ve told you that, but I’ve also told that it’s going to be a money pit. … I don’t want this to be a double-edged sword of negativity.”

"I just noticed a couple of numbers about the Dust Bowl in this budget. I just want to know where it comes from because it was not familiar to me and I want to know if it's budgeted because it is a big number"
Mayor Powell:
"The $100,000? I think that's just a placeholder. That's always been there."
