Plan

Downtown Advisory Commission Meeting

Date: June 19, 2019

Below are the notable positive items if we keep we Include Dust Bowl reuse analysis as part of the upcoming Downtown Master

Plan:

  1. Can be added to scope early for planning effort cost considerations
  2. Recommendations would include costs considerations, list of potential uses and provide a community vision for any longterm revitalization effort if recommended.
  3. Allows for robust community conversation and input.
  4. Allows for an informed conversation.
  5. The elements of the Downtown plan can identify potential sources of revenue to fund recommendations.
  6. Plan would identify feasible reuse opportunities.

While these are the negative items pointed out during the meeting:

  1. Will leave questions unanswered while plan is being considered, completed and approved.
  2. No immediate stabilization will exacerbate deterioration, making future rehabilitation more expensive.
  3. The blighting influences on Main Street will not immediately be reduced.
  4. A portion of the Public will not be pleased with any result, passion and politics will be intertwined.
  5.  Building should be secured immediately to prevent vandalism and offset potential liability issues.
  6. Although costs are currently unknown, may be well beyond the cost of razing and rebuilding.
