Downtown Advisory Commission Meeting / Dust Bowl Estimate Update

During the Council Meeting held July 8, 2020, the council discusses providing authorization to obtain accurate and reliable cost estimates for options relating to the Dust Bowl Theater and adjacent Veteran's Center.  


Discussion:


Staff proposes to retain the services of a qualified estimator to provide cost estimates for the Dust Bowl Theater building based upon the four options for the building(s) as

outlined below.


Estimate 1 – A detailed (by line item) construction and design cost estimate to completely restore and update the exterior and interior of the building.

Estimate 2 - A detailed (by line item) construction and design cost estimate to renovate the exterior and interior of the building to a “vanilla shell” configuration.

Estimate 3 - The line item cost to stabilize the exterior and interior of the building primarily the roof- to minimize further deterioration.

Estimate 4 – A line item cost estimate to raze the building and foundation, making the site suitable for future development including an assessment of the relationship between the Dust Bowl theater and the adjacent Veteran’s Center.


These cost estimates will be part of the decision matrix relating to the final determination of the future of the Dust Bowl Theater (and potentially the adjacent Veterans Center) by the Eloy City Council.
